DENDROCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF
TIMBERS
FROM HENDEN PLACE,
WOODCHURCH, KENT

SUMMARY
Nine oak
building timbers were commissioned for dendrochronological analysis from
Henden Place, originally a four bay Wealden hall house, built on the Green, in the
village of Woodchurch, Kent. Two samples from separate crown
posts (with bracing) have been dated to form a 90-year site mean
chronology (HENDENPL) spanning AD 1324 - AD 1413. The heartwood/sapwood
boundary averaged from both timbers produced a felling date range of AD
1410 - AD 1442, this was reduced by the presence of surviving sapwood to a
felling date of AD 1427 - AD 1442.
