Fifteen oak building timbers were commissioned for dendrochronological analysis from Clock House (TQ175388), an early example of a central chimney house, with originally four bays. The posts have jowls and the roof is of "three queen strut" construction with large windbraces. Twelve timbers from a variety of structural features of the initial build dated to form a 172-year site mean chronology (CAPEL-CH) spanning AD 1382 - AD 1553. Four samples provided precise felling dates: one of winter AD 1552 and three of winter AD 1553, suggesting that construction commenced in winter AD 1553/4 or shortly after. Three cores sampled from suggested later phases of development failed to date. Samples derived from fast growing trees felled relatively young and weaknesses of reference chronologies available for Surrey over the 17^th and 18^th centuries are highlighted as problems requiring further research.
