DENDROCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS
FROM
LITTLE DOLBY,
CHARLWOOD,
SURREY, ENGLAND.

SUMMARY
Little Dolby is a three bay hall house, two of which formed an open hall,
an unusual plan for the area. The hipped roof has 2 crown posts.
Ten oak timbers were dated
dendrochronologically to form a well replicated 161-year site mean
chronology (CHAR-LD), spanning AD 1336 - AD 1496. Eight samples with good
sapwood evidence are treated as an associated felling and bark on three of
these samples produced a felling date of Winter AD 1496/7. The evidence strongly suggests that the primary phase of
construction commenced Winter AD 1496/7 or soon after.
