DENDROCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS
FROM THE
MANOR HOUSE,
CHARLWOOD,
SURREY, ENGLAND.

SUMMARY
The Manor House
is a 4 bay hall house with cross-wings at either side of the first build.
All three parts have crown-post roofs and heavy timbering. The un-braced
crown post roof suggested an early, perhaps c1400 date. Five
oak timbers were dated dendrochronologically to form a 58-year site mean
chronology (CHARL-MH), spanning AD 1394 - AD 1451. The five samples dated
are consistent with an associated felling and in the absence of bark,
application of a sapwood estimate indicates that construction of the
original hall occurred as a single phase between AD 1454 and AD 1486
