DENDROCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS
FROM THE
OLD BAKEHOUSE,
CHARLWOOD,
SURREY, ENGLAND.

SUMMARY
The Old Bakehouse has two old bays in the centre, with a fine crown-post
roof. The evidence is contradictory, but it was probably part of a three
bay build, with a single bay open hall.
Two oak timbers were
dendrochronologically dated and form a 60-year site mean chronology (CHARL-OB),
spanning AD 1372 - AD 1431. The two spot dates of the far east and west
corner posts of the two bays in the
centre of the building
suggest that the AD 1437 to AD 1469 felling date range presented is likely
to relate to the original build.
