DENDROCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS
FROM
PAGEWOOD HOUSE,
CHARLWOOD,
SURREY, ENGLAND.

SUMMARY
Pagewood House is a fine, 4 bay hall house with a 2 bay open hall and a
divided service end. The roof is crown post.
Nine oak timbers were dated
dendrochronologically to form a 211-year site mean chronology (CHARL-PA),
spanning AD 1338 - AD 1548. The eight samples dated are consistent with a
single felling and indicate that
construction of the original hall occurred as a single phase in Winter AD
1451/2 or soon after. An additional sample from a transverse beam felled
in the Winter AD 1548/9 helps confirm building evidence that this timber
formed part of a later floor insertion.
