DENDROCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS
FROM
ROBINS FARM,
CHARLWOOD,
SURREY, ENGLAND.

SUMMARY
Robins Farm is a three bay
medieval house with a one-bay hall and both ends floored. It is unusual
for the area in having a clasped purlin, queen strut, roof. Most hall
houses in Charlwood are of crown-post construction.
Seven oak timbers were dated
dendrochronologically to form a 140-year site mean chronology (CHARL-RF),
spanning AD 1365 - AD 1504. All the samples are consistent with an
associated felling and bark evidence indicates that the original phase of
construction occurred in Winter AD 1504/5 or soon after. The data for this
site mean and an interim eight site master chronology for Charlwood called
(CHARL-8) are presented.
