DENDROCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF
TIMBERS
FROM THE GREEN,
WORPLESDON, SURREY.

SUMMARY
Eleven oak building timbers were commissioned for
dendrochronological analysis from The Green, originally a three bay, open
hall, built bordering the green at the southern end of the village of
Worplesdon, Surrey. Four timbers from a variety of structural features
from the initial build have been dated to form a 120-year site mean
chronology (THEGREEN) spanning AD 1384 - AD 1503. Two samples provided the
precise felling dates of spring/summer AD 1501 and winter AD 1503,
suggesting that construction commenced in AD 1504 or shortly
after. A second edition of this report now updates a couple of aspects of
the archaeology, which were further investigated.
